Moments that make sense on their own
A good Short is not just a random minute of a long video. It needs a start that pulls people in and an end that pays off, without the rest of the video to explain it. GetButlr reads the transcript and looks at frames to find those moments, then explains why each one stands on its own.
Each suggestion comes with a hook for the opening seconds and a title. Hooks and titles go through the same quality checks as every other GetButlr headline, so they describe what really happens in the clip.
- Up to five suggested clips per video
- A hook and a title for each clip
- Trim the start and end before rendering
- Vertical crop with the hook on the opening frame
Your video file stays on your computer
Long videos are often several gigabytes, so GetButlr never uploads them. Your browser pulls out the soundtrack and a few sample frames for the scan, and only the clips you approve are cut and uploaded for rendering.
On Chrome and Edge, GetButlr can remember the file you picked for seven days, so coming back to make more Shorts does not mean finding it again. Other browsers can keep a private copy in the browser's own storage if you choose. Either way it is cleared after seven days or when you start over.
Post to YouTube Shorts and TikTok
A rendered clip becomes the working video in GetButlr Studio, with its title, description and tags ready to check before you publish to YouTube. When a Short publishes, GetButlr sends its opening frame, hook included, to YouTube as the Shorts cover.
The same clip can go to TikTok: post it, schedule it or send it to your drafts. Your clips and renders are kept for a while, so posting to the second platform does not mean starting again. You can add licensed music from Epidemic Sound to a render; each music licence covers one platform.
Plans and limits
Shorts from a long video is part of the paid plans. Creator ($9 a month) handles videos up to 15 minutes, four videos a month and three rendered clips each. Pro handles up to 30 minutes, Max up to an hour. MP4 and MOV files work today.
GetButlr suggests and you decide. Nothing is published without you, and no tool can promise that a clip will go viral.
Questions creators ask
How do I turn a long YouTube video into Shorts?
Pick the long video in GetButlr Studio. GetButlr suggests up to five moments that work on their own, with a hook and title for each. Approve the ones you want, adjust the start and end if needed, and render them as vertical Shorts ready to publish.
Is there a free long video to Shorts converter?
GetButlr's Shorts from a long video is part of the paid plans, starting with Creator at $9 a month: videos up to 15 minutes, four a month, three rendered clips each. The free plan covers titles, descriptions, tags and thumbnail comparisons.
Do I have to upload my whole video?
No. The video file stays on your computer. Your browser sends the soundtrack and a few sample frames for the scan, and only the clips you approve are uploaded to be rendered.
How long can the video be?
Up to 15 minutes on Creator, 30 minutes on Pro and 60 minutes on Max. MP4 and MOV files are supported.
Can I post the same clips to YouTube Shorts and TikTok?
Yes. A rendered clip can be published to YouTube Shorts and posted, scheduled or sent to drafts on TikTok, and your clips are still there when you come back for the second platform. Licensed music, if you add it, covers one platform per render.
How is this different from OpusClip or CapCut?
Those tools are built for clipping first. GetButlr is built around getting a finished video published: the clips sit next to the title, description, thumbnail and TikTok tools, and your long video is never uploaded. If clipping huge volumes is your main job, a dedicated clipper may suit you better.
